As part of Elévon World’s packed London Fashion Week schedule, we had to make sure we got our spot for Cassey Gan presenting at Fashion Scout’s SS19 showcase.
The Malaysian label celebrates individuality with clothes that are graphic and unpredictable. In an ongoing dialogue with the art world, the designs are inspired by David Hockney - a pioneer of the British art movement through his vibrant and intimate portraits. This series is mostly inspired by his iPad series as well as his polaroid collages series. Cassey’s idiosyncratic approach to womenswear has made it a favourite with creatives who yearn for distinctive style.
Cassey Gan’s silhouettes are constructed with flowing structure and oversized shape, giving a constant free movement to each garment. The offbeat style is continued through the collection with print blocking which meticulously meld together like a puzzle with considered elements including detachable layers. Every piece in the collection can be paired with one another – a pallet of staple pieces creating a functional, relaxed and flamboyant wardrobe.
We’ve followed Cassey Gan’s emerging career since her graduation from London College of Fashion in 2012 where her final collection was one of 25 to be selected by LCF for its external press show. Since then, the maximalist designer has appeared in Vogue Italia and is currently presenting at Paris Fashion Week.
We can’t wait to see more from this inspirational designer.
