Emerging designer, Kimberley Stacey, has had the unique pleasure of growing up visiting the magical and fairy tale lands of Scandinavia.
Envision a childhood riding Icelandic horses, building tunnels in giant snow drifts, taking in the Northern Lights and even spending time at a glacier lagoon. She takes inspiration from her childhood as well as recent travels to these countries and has created the independent brand, TISKA London.
After a full year operating the label and designing then launching two collections, Kimberley has sound advice to others starting in the industry.
“Whether you are just about to graduate or are debating moving from the big, bad world of corporate fashion – deciding to go out there alone and starting your own label is always the hardest part.
“It takes a lot of dedication, long hours and sleepless nights so you really have to love what you are doing. Especially at the beginning when there is little to no money coming in.
“However, launching my very own Nordic-style fashion label is by far the best career move I have ever made. I feel like I am finally doing something that is making me happy as I am only really being true to myself when I’m designing.
“Make your mistakes and don’t feel like they are failings – learn from them and create your own path.
“Then be selective over the advice you choose to listen to. This is your journey so if you stay true to yourself and remain authentic, it’ll be worth the ride.”
